Come and Try

Welcome to those wanting to come down and try outrigger paddling with us on the Gold Coast Broadwater.

GCOCC runs a professional coaching program for those wanting to join the fun sport of Outrigging. This involves a free “Come & Try” session. This is an adults only program.

The ‘Come & Try’ sessions are designed to help get people started with Outrigging so they can decide if they want to go further and become a club member to take part in the regular training sessions and possibly even competitions.

  • Sunscreen and hat
  • A change of clothes and towel (if you need it for after the session)
  • An outrigger paddle if you have one or can borrow one, otherwise let us know and we will provide a club one

Joining the Club

You’re able to come along to 1 free session and 5 x Novice coaching sessions for $50 to get to know some of club members and help you decide if it’s the sport for you. Then take a look at the Membership page to guide you through the steps of joining if you want to keep paddling with the club. Your $50 payment will be deducted from your Membership fee.

When you join, we will provide follow up information to introduce you to the basics of outrigger canoeing:

  • the traditions and terminology of the craft and the sport
  • the OC6 canoe layout and role of each paddler
  • stroke technique
  • use and care of equipment.
